General Character Info
Canon: Final Fantasy XIV
Name: Lyng Yewteus (né Lyngzagl Sthanywenhaersyn)
Age: 27
Appearance: Lyng is an Au Ra, specifically of the Xaela clan; he has black horns and a long black tail, and black scales that line his face, neck, back, hips, arms, and legs. He is tall, even for his race, standing at a little over seven feet. Lyng's body has a strange reaction to aether in that it tends to absorb it and hold onto it like a sponge - in what has been described as something of an 'allergic reaction'; this results in his glowing eyes, glowing hair, and the glowing freckles of aether on his face. When overexposed to a lot of aether at once in massive concentrations (such as the Aetherchemical Research Facility in Azys Lla or the sea of aether of Omega's creation) Lyng ends up with aether freckles across his entire body, and it can make him quite sick.

History
Early life: Unbeknownst to him, Lyng was born to the Angura tribe in the Azim Steppe the year that Doma fell to the Garlean Empire. He was born with aether sickness, and out of desperation his parents took him from the Azim Steppe all the way to the shores of Eorzea seeking treatment for his condition. While they succeeded in getting Lyng treatment, Lyng's life with them was shortlived - at just under two years old, the caravan his parents were traveling with was attacked by bandits and Lyng was accidentally kidnapped with the stolen cargo.
A refugee and mercenary monk of the Fist of Rhalgr named Weeping Willow - under the alias Caerwyda Sthanywenwyn - stopped the bandits with the intent of retrieving the cargo. She happened upon the baby Lyng who'd been mixed in with the cargo, lost and crying. While Caerwyda made her best attempts to find Lyng's parents, they never turned up, and it was assumed they'd been killed in the attack on the caravan. Caerwyda made the decision to adopt Lyng herself, and settled down with him in a small village in Thanalan - affectionaly giving him the Seawolf name Lyngzagl (meaning Long Tail) and bestowing on him her father's name as Lyng's surname (Sthanywenhaersyn meaning 'grandson of Standing Yew').
Having no other family and being driven from Ala Mhigo on pain of death, Caerwyda decided to pass her culture on to Lyng at a young age; from the age of five he became an acolyte of Rhalgr, training with the hopes of one day becoming a monk like his mother. His childhood was somewhat troubled, growing up as the only Au Ra in pretty much all of Thanalan as well as the son of an Ala Mhigan refugee, though he made friends with a Roegadyn boy his age named Eyrisynt who often protected Lyng from the bullying by other villagers. When they grew older, Eyri would be Lyng's first love.
The Calamity: The day that Dalamud fell and the Calamity struck, Lyng's village was destroyed; while he and his mother managed to rescue many of the villagers, including Eyri and his family, Lyng's home of almost 18 years was gone. Most of the survivors either moved into refugee camps right outside of Ul'dah's gates or into Ul'dah proper, but Caerwyda was stricken by grief at having lost yet another home, and she refused to live the life of a fleeing refugee ever again. Instead of staying with the hopes of rebuilding, Caerwyda forced Lyng to leave Eyri and the rest of their village behind, deciding it was time she started Lyng's pilgrimage as a monk properly.
For the next three years, Lyng and Caerwyda traveled all across Thanalan, to countless battlefields as they attempted to open Lyng's chakra. Despite training almost his entire life for it, something wasn't right, and Lyng's chakra remained closed and inaccessible. Feelings of stress and inadequacy at his failures often lead to fights between himself and his mother, and at the three year mark of their pilgrimage, Lyng finally couldn't take anymore disappointment. He abandoned Caerwyda, taking his few belongings and wandering off on his own.
Feeling lost and without purpose, for the next two years Lyng became something of a wandering vigilante, fighting a number of criminals and bandits on the roads of Thanalan. Eventually this lead to him stepping on the toes of a Brass Blade member attempting a sting operation. The Brass Blade urged Lyng that if he really wanted to help, in a way more organized and without a doubt less irksome than vigilante work, that he ought to travel to Ul'dah and join the Adventurers' Guild and the Pugilists' Guild. Lyng reluctantly agreed, traveling to Ul'dah and starting the events of A Realm Reborn.
MSQ: Lyng is not the sole Warrior of Light in his world. He shares that title with his spouse Ophion Luteus, whom he met when they were both recruited by the Scions of the Seventh Dawn. Lyng often deals with the face end of being the Warrior of Light, shouldering the burden of celebrity that comes with it, though anyone relatively close to the pair or the Scions as a group is aware of the open secret that the two of them share the title and responsibilities equally.
